So… it’s Thursday. I meant to post this on Monday. The universe had other plans. This week has been one of those that just happened to me, I legit felt like a passenger in my own life. Work hours were cut, kid chaos, no more neighborhood dryers catching fire thankfully, and old lady Piper has been testing out her ability to still run throughout my house like she was a puppy. I think I’ve tripped over her zooming backside three times within the past 24 hours alone.
If you’ve been here a while, you know I’m not great at rigid schedules anyway. Sorry.
On the writing front, I’ve been bouncing between stories and feeling deeply unsatisfied with how they were coming out. Those of you who follow me on Facebook already saw me venting about it. The problem? I was trying to write each character’s POV in its own clean scene so I wouldn’t ‘head-hop’, which I totally learned was a term after releasing Seen Once. Mine Forever.
Turns out that approach fucking sucks for me.
I write in third-person, I head-hop. I’m just trying more consciously to make the shifts clear so you’re never lost. That’s my natural rhythm and forcing myself out of it was killing the flow and the voice. So, I stopped. I’m going back to what feels like me. Messy, intimate, distinct, and I know it’s not strictly “to market” right now, and that’s okay. Some readers don’t like my style, some do, and that’s okay too. I’m not trying to sound like anyone else. I want my books to carry my voice, even if it’s a little unfashionable.
With that reset, I’ve been revisiting allll these chapters I’ve written for Seen Twice. Mine Eternally. and Phlox & Possession, fixing them. And so far, I’m very happy with the changes.
Onto the projects.
Phlox & Possession is breathing again. I’m pretty sure I’m going to turn this into a series focused on one couple and they’ll be shorter books than Seen Once. Mine Forever. They’re also the perfect palate cleanser for me when Noah’s voice gets a little too loud in my head. Writing shorter stories on the side come out faster and let me work in quick bursts when I need a break from the heavier, longer stuff. Or really, just Noah, I made a mmc who may be permanently lodged in my freaking brain.
Seen Twice. Mine Eternally. is moving slow and steady, at my usual rate of a chapter a day, most of the time. I’m still anticipating bumping the release date sooner than October.
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for the monthly newsletter! If you signed up and did NOT get the first chapters of both stories, feel free to email me or reach out to me on Facebook and I’ll get them to you.
Next month’s newsletter, I should have character reveal for Rafe, he’s still a work in progress but so far, I’m happy with how he’s turning out visually. I’m still mulling over the cover itself, that will be TBD down the road.
Stay in the dark!
